Dr Brad Cavinder joined the laboratory in January 2012 to work on transposable elements in mosquitoes as part of the W.M. Keck Foundation funded project in collaboration with the Wessler and Atkinson labs. He is using bioinformatics and molecular biology to study bursts of TEs in mosquitoes and improving methods for TE identification. He received his PhD from Michigan State University in the laboratory of Frances Trail working on Fusarium graminearum.
